Good story

This is a higher level continuation of "El viaje de su vida." A couple of high school students end up stranded in Puerto Rico with no money. It's a little longer than "El viaje de su vida." I very much like this series, especially the ones by Lisa Ray Turner and Blaine Ray.

My students loved it

My Spanish students are often frustrated that their vocabulary level just isn't quite up to the ability of reading "real" Spanish Literature, but both the Level 2 and Level 1 students are able to study a short list of vocabulary and work through an interesting story that keeps them wanting to turn the pages and discuss it the next week in class. I thought it was QUITE well done.

This is an absolutely must have for any students or followers of the Yoruba religion and culture. William Bascom has done an excellent job of bringing out Ifa verses and patakis in this book.
The information he has learned from so many years of his Anthropological studies in Nigeria have proven to be an inmense source of knowledge and wisdom on the subject. Comparing this book to others written on the subject matter, there is no comparision !
All of Bascom's work is phenominal .

Enjoying The Series a Lot!

With The Swarm Descends, author Grey revisits many of the themes of the first book - from meeting a new girl to dealing with two scheming evil minions and a new 'big bad' feral. And although the character of Caw is not as socially awkward as before, most of the plotting closely (perhaps too much so) mirrors the first Ferals book. Fortunately, Caw's adventures continue to be interesting even if Grey doesn't elevate the story or deepen the mythology all that much here.

Story: Caw has defeated the spider, mamba, and rat ferals - but lost a crow friend in the process. Armed with his remaining crow friends, he longs to see the house he grew up in. Once there, however, he meets a lively stray girl and is summarily accosted by a strange pale feral. It seems the feral has an item he was entrusted with by Caw's mother - a mysterious black stone with strange powers. Powers entrusted to the crow talkers but coveted by the shunned Mother of Flies. With the new girl, Lydia, Pip the mouse feral, Crumb the pigeon feral, and Lydia helping, will Caw be able to protect the stone from those who would steal it from him - and use it for their own evil purposes?

Following nearly the same exact story arc, but with new (but similar) villains and a new girl-pal, the lack of world building was a bit of a disappointment. Instead, we get yet another crow-guarded object, another girl with odd mother, two evil minions hampering Caw, and a big bad who lures Caw into a terrible place. Admittedly, it seemed a bit much that the crows had not one but two legendary objects to protect. As well, although we do get a few new ferals, we don't see much of the previous ones or an insight into their lives or unique feral animal qualities. Even the big bad was, like in the previous book, an insect feral.

As a middle school book, I think kids will enjoy Caw's adventure and not read too much into the lack of canon growth. Caw will be forced to explore his crow powers again - with the result being a new ability that will be the envy of other ferals. We do get more crow history, though briefly, and it will be interesting to see if the new girl continues in the next book as as a secondary character. Certain, Lydia didn't play much of a part in this book as she did in the second and that seemed a bit of a waste considering Caw's lonely upbringing.

In all, perhaps not as good as the first book but still a satisfying adventure for middle graders. My 12 year old enjoyed it but also felt the first book was a bit better. Adults, however, may be left wishing for more character development and a great exploration of the canon. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Creepy, Action-Packed Fantasy

Caw is not finished with adventures, this time it begins when a mysterious man give him a stone. He tells Caw that he had been entrusted with the stone by Caw's mother who instructed him to give it to Caw and have Caw keep it secret.

The problem is that there is a new feral villain in town who will do anything to get the stone from Caw. Caw and his friend Lydia along with new companion Selina have to learn what the stone is for and how they can use it to defeat the Mother of the Flies.

This series has lots of creepy scenes and the action never stops. Caw is a great character who has a deep sense of honor and a deep desire to protect his fellow ferals. Not bad for a young teenager who was raised by crows after the deaths of his parents and who has just recently learned to interact with humans and other ferals.

Fans of the first book will be glad to see Caw having new adventures along with his crow companions.

No content whatsoever. Don't be misled by the title: there is no secret and it is not useful to a security professional.

Great ebook on managing and auditing firewalls the right way

Whether you are a relative newcomer to penetration testing or a seasoned security professional you'll not be disappointed. This eBook provides an insightful look into what exactly is required for managing and auditing firewalls from initial design right up to implementation.

In the book the author pulls no punches in highlighting the fact that customers are invariably short changed by some companies providing sub-standard testing which ultimately put their businesses at risk.

One of the criticism of other firewall books, is that they tend to focus on one particular vendor (Cisco, SonicWALL etc), this book is vendor neutral which is very beneficial for companies that use many different types of firewalls in their estate.

If you provide penetration testing or audit firewalls, like myself you may come away reviewing your current testing methodology and include some of the recommendations and advise provided by the author.

As hinted in the book, this is the first in a series. I very much look forward to the next subject if it's as informative as this read.

She did it again! Penny Farthing has done another 50 new designs for us. This is the second in her World's Best Mandala series that I have gotten and I love every single one. The images are clear and the paper is a great weight. The pages are single sided. You only have to grab your choice of coloring medium and have at it. If you use a wet medium such as watercolors or markers and do not take out the page then I suggest a piece of card stock between to keep under image pristine. I really enjoy her relaxing mandalas,

I would recommend this book or the whole series to anyone be it novice of advanced.

I LOVE these mandalas

I LOVE these mandalas!!! These books have all levels of Mandalas from beginners to very advanced.
I was frustrated though, because this book does NOT have perforated pages. Every time I tried to cut a page out, it didn't cut evenly. So, I took the books to a local printer who has a "Guillotine Cutter" and they didn't even charge me to cut the binding off the two books! You might also check out local colleges that have Graphic Arts Programs.

The mandalas were shrunk to fit in the book so the outlines were wide and dark and left almost no room to add color. Very disappointed.
