I liked this one the best in the series but not a huge fan of the series.

I liked this story (#2) the best of the trio of books available in July 2016 - the group I'd give 3.5 stars to - I read them one right after the other but I'm not sure I'll remember to watch for the 4th one next year or pursue this author's other works. Clearly, I have mixed emotions about these stories.

The characters are not very likable. There are story points that didnt make sense. Specifically - in the first book - altho I'd probably be a sniveling, perpetually scared female if an alien showed up & took me captive - I'd rather read about someone who's behavior is braver, more entertaining - more as I'd wish to behave if faced with such a situation. Natalie was relentlessly irritatingly scared & whiny - yet fell into bed with her captor - then went back to being terrified. Julia in the second in the series was a more enjoyable character. Marcie in the 3rd was back in the whiney characterization but with a twist.

The hero(s) were equally difficult to like. Across the board, they were emotionless, pedantic, treated the women like dumb animals who needed to be trained (yet were in love with them), made little conversation, virtually no internal dialogue to let the reader see a 'different' side of them, no introspection, no give, no compromise. Most of their actions & cultural things were shrouded in secrecy - which made for some boring moments. Also, the skin so tough nothing can penetrate it is too extreme & I found it aggravating. The sex scenes were always vanilla, repetitive & didn't vary much - not within a book, not from story to story. More internal dialogue took place with the hero in the 2nd story - which I welcomed. But there wasn't much of it before he went back to be inscruptable.

Finally the whole children thing was creepy in an Alfred Hitchcock manner. Spoiler - why isn't this superior society anxious & working for female children when their females died out eons ago? To me that's an obvious story point that's just ignored.

The overall premise (non-abusive aliens mating with women) is one I've enjoyed by other authors. The writing is cohesive & general plots good. I wanted to know more about the world so I read on. If there was a 4th available right now, I'd probably buy (if not too expensive( & read that one too. But I doubt I'll be anxiously awaiting future installments. A world where the females are (protected! & loved!) 2nd class citizens with no rights, nothing to do all day, are always in the dark about the activities, foundation, early years & culture of their 'beloveds' isn't very appealing. Not to mention the guys are not companions - they're just one-dimensional night-time visitors.

Enjoyed it

I like how Natalie and Zacar were continued on in this book. I would recommend reading the first book to really get the joy of it. I guess I rated 4 stars I wasn't interested in reading the bad people POV. I actually skip reading about them because I knew the Warriors would defeat them and we will see the result of it. Otherwise, I thought it was good.

Good book but...

I didn't like this book as well as the first one. The heroine was whinny and wishy washy. It all came together about three quarters of the way through the story.
I hope the next book is better.

An objective, well informed look at a culturally taboo topic

Many of the Scientific American Library books are gems and this isosemantically titled book by Dr. Snyder is no exception. The books I have read from this series are uniformly short, sweet and to the point. Drugs, per se, are after all essentially what brain function is. Drugs are our personalities, our emotions (not to mention all other vertebrates, especially the class of mammals to which we belong). There is no better way to come to understand psychology, physiology, the cognitive sciences, and one could argue, metaphysics, than by examining the action of drugs and the brain; the primary distinction being intrinsic, naturally produced drugs as opposed to extrinsic, store (or street) bought ones.
Dr. Snyder runs through the litany of the common classes of drugs: the opiates and their natural countersubstance, the endorphins--the stimulants and their action of dopamine reuptake blockage--the hallucinogens and their concomitant serotonergic pathways--and some of the more popular psychopharmcologicals specific to schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety.
This book is a well written, historically informative, crash course in pharmacology for the lay reader, and remains a valuable reference long after its initial reading.

Psychopharmacology primer for the intelligent reader

This book is short, accessible, and fully illustrated. It is a particularly compelling technical primer for the intelligent but non-initiated reader. The logical flow of the book reflects the history of drug use and pharmacology research, both increasing in sophistication over time, and is topically organized by the major classes of psychoactives.
Subjects touched upon include the use of drugs in religious ceremony, Freud's cocain habit, the 60s, and the modern era of specialized mood-altering drugs.
The author is chair of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and one of the top three most cited scientists in the life science.
It is a pleasure to read, and a springboard for further investigation in the areas of psychopharmacology, neuroscience or psychiatry.

Great reading coming from a person who has been on a antidepressent rollercoaster for over a year. Along with misc, pills. It is a great book to help understand what goes on and why this antidepressent quit working and this one the Doc wont prescribe and other reasons for it being called a "Roller-Coaster Ride fot the Brain"

Catholic Commentaries

The Collegeville Commentary series is a Catholic set of commentaries for the books of the Bible. Most of the commentaries are individual (ie: one commentary for one book of the Bible), and the commentary on Matthew is one of those. When I say that it is a Catholic commentary, I mean that it is written by someone of the Catholic faith, and as such all interpretation will be done from the Catholic standpoint. The commentary is a paperback book of over 100 pages. The top portion of each page contains the actual Biblical verses, while the lower portion of each page contains the commentary. The two are easily delineated, and the format is not confusing. Another nice feature to the individual books (like this one) as compared to the compendium (you can buy the Old or New Testament commentaries as single books) is that these contain pictures of sites important to Jesus' ministry, and where appropriate maps of the areas as well. Also, the compendiums do not have the Biblical verses but only contain the commentaries (presumably to save space). The cost of these books is relatively cheap and if you only need a commentary on a book or two of the Bible these are much cheaper to buy than large bulky commentaries. This Purchase Should Be a No-Brainer

In the past, study guides I have had included much more emphasis on review and summary material. This book has none of that. This is strictly questions and answers. Questions come in the form of multiple choice, fill in the blank, essay, and crossword. Their are nice rationales and answers in the back. There are also a few short learning objectives I think in the front of each chapter.

Definitely a great source for reviewing material in a quick and interactive way. It really focuses you in on what topics are more important and why.

Good Resource; Please Add Audio.

I have several of Rikky Rooksby's books and I really like all of them. This one is very in-depth about using altered/alternate tunings on the guitar. Like his other books, it can seem too much like an encyclopedia versus guitar lessons. However, that was his intention: To give you an exhaustive source on the subject. You shouldn't intend on sitting down with it and going through the whole book at once.

My big problem with this book and other ones I've bought for the guitar on Kindle is that the regular book comes with a CD and the Kindle edition does not have the audio files. I know it can be done because I have bought some Hal Leonard books which come with the audio. Please (Amazon or Publisher) add the audio to these books and then let the people who already purchased them be able to re-download them.

I have also owned "How To Write Songs On Guitar" and The Songwriters Sourcebook". All three have a lot of great info, but cross the line into too much to process. Also his examples of who plays in what tuning (or what progressions in the other books) are a bit dated.

Not at all a waste of money, but it might be more confusing than helpful to most. I would suggest it as a resourse and then get a more in depth study of a particular tuning or artist you want to learn or emulate.

Very comprehensive and thorough

I have a music degree and play several instruments. This book is very thorough, however I believe it to be very comprehensive for self taught or "play-by-ear" musicians. I have been playing guitar in standard tuning for many years, and only recently began to experiment with altered tunings. Within it's chapters, Rikky Rooksby covers the history of altered tunings, basic songwriting, seven classifications of altered tunings, FAQs, and comments from famous songwriters and their use of these tunings for inspiration and creating their unique sound. The appendices include tables of chord notes and transformations, and songwriting tips. The book also includes a 44 track CD with audio examples of chord progressions using the tunings within the book.

The author has written an entire series of books. Some general overviews on writing songs on guitar or keyboard, and some specifically on lyrics, arranging, and melody. I highly recommend this book as a resource that will serve musicians of all levels for as long as they desire to write music.

I have purchased this book every time the updated version comes out. Now that I have the kindle version it is even easier to read up on any medication that is prescribed for myself or my family.
This version tells you in, plain language, what side effects to look for, interactions with food and other medications and what medical problems make prescribing the medication contraindicated.
having been in the healthcare field for many years, I am aware that unintentional mistakes can be made, having the PDR
