This book is for all contemplating marriage, partnership, divorce, becoming an item, living together or whatever!
It is also a must read for any endeavouring to guide and counsel others. It is also for the rest of us.
It is light-hearted but gives sound Biblical teaching on true romance. It provides a clear and reasoned presentation together with vast experience of the authors of the steps leading up to a successful marriage.
The book takes account of the fact that God appeared on the scene of human history as a matchmaker - an intimacy revealed first between God and man and then between man and woman - a pattern He has ordained to stand unchanged until the end of human history.
The miracle Jesus performed, changing water into wine showed how much He cared about marriage and how much He aligned Himself with His Father.
There is an area of holy mystery about this book that is revealed for the reader.

This book was amazingly insightful. I read it through a second time right after I finished it the first time. I was afraid to read it at first because I am 50 years old and have yet to be married and was afraid it would seem harsh and take away my hope. But I stead it strengthened my faith in a loving faithful Father and totally encouraged me to continue to trust and wait on God.

The book is written in easy to read language and contains deeply insightful spiritual thoughts. I will recommend it as mandatory reading for everyone considering marriage. But it is also useful for the average believer given that the relationship between Christ and His church is the basis of matrimonial unity. I benefitted from this book personally although I am not married, or considering it either.

A Unique Read Bridging the First and Second World Wars

Having known Thea Iberall for some time and spoken with her about our mutual passion for research. Hearing both Thea and Anne M. Gilbert speak about the process they undertook in the writing of this memoir, I was expecting an extraordinary read and was not disappointed!

Where the story belongs to Anne M. Gilbert who lived a life few could imagine. The deft hand that filled in the details and crafted this work is that of astute listener and thoughtful author, Thea Iberal. To both of you ladies, I say, "Well done!"

If you are looking for a unique story which bridges the First and Second World War's, this is the book for you!

I could see the light in her eyes and a beautiful smile so full of life

This book took me by surprise! I had the pleasure of meeting Anne Gilbert at an airport as we were getting off the plane I saw she had a large heavy bag so I asked if I could help her with it and we connected right away. I could see the light in her eyes and a beautiful smile so full of life. We talked non-stop all the way to baggage claim and she told me about her book, we said our good-byes and she gave me her card to call her. I travel for business and have not been home long enough to call her however I very much look forward to a visit very soon. I didn't want the book to end......I have shared it with many friends and they loved it too! I won't tell you more as not to spoil it for you. You won't be disappointed that's for sure! A treasure to behold

With my book club we have been reading several WW II and Holocaust books, and this was a wonderful addition to them. It was another view of the time, the journey and I really appreciated the extra inside knowledge (especially from a child's perspective). I plan on sharing with the book club on Dec. 30th. as this is a treasure not to hoard...

Convenient and helpful, but not a "Complete Daily Curriculum"

I have a three year old daughter, and while this book is oriented more towards preschool groups as opposed to one on one with a child, it was still very useful.

I like how the activities were grouped into different types of skills (e.g. music, art, gross motor skills) as well as into different themes (e.g. My Body, the colour Blue, Christmas). The suggestion of stories to read was also very useful, and I like the fact that it has a tonne of nursery rhymes and singsongs in there as well.

My problem is it is titled as "The Complete Daily Curriculum", but it is not formatted in a way that helps it be used as such. There's no suggestions of how long different activities will take which would help in planning the activities during the day, and there's a lot of items mentioned that it is assumed you have. A little recommended shopping list at the end of each topic would be incredibly useful.

Additionally, some of the activities are interesting, however the majority can be found for free on the internet.

I think it is worth buying for the convenience of having them grouped by theme and skill, however not if you are just looking for more ideas or want a curriculum set out for home schooling a preschool-aged child.

A little simple...

I love the focus on multiple intelligences... but when we have young children, we could do many more meaningful, real life studies. I got the earlier edition from the library, and it seemed to have a lot more useful ideas. For example the themes are colors, shapes, songs, fairy tales... I will definitely use some of the activities, but I want to expose my kids to these ideas on a daily, integrated basis and open their minds to much more interesting ideas. However, there is a theme on Choices, which I am very excited to explore.

Great idea book

I purchased this book to help my Pre-School age Son with learning. This book is full of ideas, Songs, Poems, Nursey Rhymes. I personally would never call this a Complete daily curriculum but this book is very helpful. I look forward to making up a couple work stations for my Son to help him learn thru discovery. This book is perfect becasue my Son has some special needs when it comes to learning and the local school system only offers 1/2 day preschool 4 days a week.

I want to devour "The Light of the World" over and over again.

Ellen Simpson creates a world out of vivid sensory language that captures the reader and thrusts them into Eva's life. The words flow naturally throughout the pages, and nothing is forced. I couldn't even put it down to eat; I had to devour everything about "The Light of the World"!

The characters, such as Eva, that Simpson has created have organic chemistry with one another that allows readers to fall wholeheartedly without fear into their world of mystery, of shadows, of the battle of good versus evil. Readers will root for Eva, Liv, and Al as they delve deeper into the mystery catalyzed by Eva's grandmother Mary's passing (at over a hundred years old!). As Mary's teenage years unfold through the pages of the journals, Eva's own life will change in ways most unexpected. Parallels will be drawn in thin arcs of light between the past and the present, beckoning readers to continue at their own risk.

If you're like me and into eloquently written, queer-normative fiction that combines the fantastic and the realism of the world around us while simultaneously giving readers a romantic side plot and a main character that isn't neurotypical that doesn't detract from the wonderfully addictive driving force behind the main story line, then this is the book for you.

I feel like I need to read this book again and again ...

The Light of the World was engaging from the start and hard to put down. I quickly became invested in each character, all of whom are well-developed and complex. I feel like I need to read this book again and again to catch all of the nuance and subtle shifts in the relationships. Simpson's portrayal of mental illness (particularly depression) gives me insight as to how members of my own family may experience life. I'm certainly glad I chose this book for my first book of the year to read, and I look forward to re-reading it regularly.

I’ll start by saying that I really enjoyed this book

I’ll start by saying that I really enjoyed this book. To me the characters were heartfelt and charming, the plot was engaging, and many passages were wonderfully lyrical.

At its heart Light of the World is a book that explores puzzles. There is of course the overarching mystery of Eva’s grandmother as detailed in the book description. However, beyond that arc the book explores several interpersonal puzzles as well. The varying mysteries of family, friends, love and adulthood are explored and navigated by Eva in her journey to learn more about her grandmother, and I think Light is much richer for it.

One particularly interesting aspect was the narrative gave me pieces of the mystery that the characters Eva and her grandmother Mary didn’t have. To me it created a very engaging tension for me as the reader as I tried to pull my pieces of the puzzle together with the pieces that the characters discovered through their exploration.

I think most of all I enjoyed Eva’s daily life and exploration of the puzzle of adulthood, family, and love. Simpson very handily captures one’s ability to simultaneously love and be infuriated by one’s family. I have read few things that have encapsulated my own complexed feelings toward my loved ones as Light so perfectly does.

Beyond the puzzles I very much enjoyed the author’s ability to create turns of phrase that are vivid and lyrical. My favorite passage “She has pulled open my ribs and settled herself right beside my heart, nestled in against my soul and I do not think I could ever carve her out,” is indicative of Simpsons talent and storytelling ability as these passages are written not just for the joy of language but also serve narratively as well. Such lyrical passages often show the similar traits that Eva and her grandmother have in common and as such help to emphasize the parallels that Eva’s own story has to her grandmother’s.

Overall, definitely an enjoyable book that I recommend to anyone in the mood for a light mystery.
