Review
Praise for Rachel E. Carter's USA Today bestsellingThe Black Mageseries:

"It takes a lot for me to truly fall in love with a book. I think I maybe do this once or twice a year. This is one of those times. I found a new fantasy story that sucked me in (completely). Imagine my surprise that it was YA too. Y'all know me. Normally, I go for the NA and above reads. But this series...it just has that something "extra". That extra punch that drags you in and won't let go. I hope you give it a try. It's THAT good." -Scarlett Dawn, NYT & USA Today bestselling author of Forever Evermore

"A magical academy where potential mages train and study all things magic, a love-hate relationship with an arrogant prince, and a determined and unyielding female heroine? Sign me up." -Raisa Santos - TheFandom.Net

"Falling somewhere between the magic of Hogwarts and the excitement of Hunger Games, this story resides in the niche rather nicely!"-Margaret Faria - InD'Tale Magazine

"This has undoubtedly become one of my favorite YA fantasy series. Hands down, no competition."-Melissa, EverSoMela, top Goodreads reviewer

"Rachel E. Carter has a definite fan in me forever, keep doing what you're doing Rachel because you write an amazing story!"-Emmeline, The Book Herald, top Amazon reviewer

Republished books (1-3) with slightly different titles (old books taken down). Great read if you don't already have them.
By C. Gold
Ok so I bought and read these books (1-3) in November of 2015 so I was excited to see a book 4 and a prequel but when I went to click on the link to the series, it claimed I had none of the books. I looked closer and these books claim a published date of 2017 and make no mention of having been released earlier. I also noticed a slight title change (old books were The Black Mage: First Year, The Black Mage: Apprentice, and The Black Mage: Candidate). Those books are no longer in the system.

So just beware if you think these seem familiar it may be because they are. I guess they got republished and the old ones taken down but this is kind of foul play since it could sucker you into buying books you have already purchased before.

I really loved these books and am super excited though to have a prequel and a book 4. I'm just not happy about the republishing sleight of hand.

I loved this book!!!!
By Melissa's Rambling
OMG! I didn't know what to expect going into this book. I try not to read some of the same kind of genres one after the other in case I get too biased and at first I thought I might have made a mistake starting this one right away. I WAS WRONG! I loved this book so much!

I absolutely love the characters... well...I can't stand stupid Priscilla.. she can suck it! But Ryiah, her brother Alex, her new friend Ella and even old grumpy Darren. I love some of the secondary characters as well.

Ryiah goes into the academy with her brother Alex in training for combat mages. She's a little worried because she doesn't really do so well with magic. I mean she only got it to work on the way there by an unfortunate turn of events! Anyhoo... they not only have classes in magic, they have to learn combat and do studies. It seemed like a tough arse boot-camp for mages to me. And I am so proud of Ryiah, she works so very hard to get as far as she does!

There is a test at the end of that years training to see who the 15 mage apprentices are going to be. They have to do some major fighting against one another. Annnnndddddd...... there is a surprise 16th mage added to the group by the black mage himself and what he says goes!

I look forward to reading more on this continuing adventure. Did I mention that I loved it!!

A book and series that I love!!
By A.R.
I accidentally bought this book.
I absolutely love this book.

Short review: I loved this book. It is a great fantasy romantic book to read!! I laughed with it, I felt Ryiah's pain, and I may have even shed a tear or two in these books (I've read the first three in the series).

Long review:
I had meant to get the free sample of the book (that is what I usually do to see if I will enjoy a book before buying it) but I accidentally hit "Buy now with 1-Click" (oops). Noticing that I had bought the kindle edition for only 99 cents, I figured I would not worry about accidentally buying it. Instead of reading this book right away, I decided to watch a movie instead. And the only reason I mention this is because I should've started reading the book sooner!! I started reading later that night (quite late) before heading to bed, and to be honest, it took me a couple minutes and several pages to get into the book but that is all it took before I couldn't put it down. I stayed up that night until 3:40 am the next day to finish. I could not put it down.
I loved this book, the characters, the writing style, the drama, everything. The story (for me) was quite interesting and captivating. The main character, Ryiah, was great. She had her doubts and strengths, but I felt like I could really relate to her. It had been a long time since I had found a book series that I loved so much. The day I finished this book I bought the next one in the series and as soon as I finished the second I bought the third. I cannot wait to get the time to read the fourth book and "Non-Heir" (the new prequel book to the series).
I loved this book for a lot of reasons and one of those reasons is for the romance in it. There is only one kiss in the first book. And the romance in this book (and the second and third- I can't vouch for the fourth because I haven't read it --YET :D ) is nothing explicitly bad. (In the second and third books there are more romance scenes [kisses] but again they are not too explicit). Another reason is the language. I believe the book did not swear at all (if it did, I cannot remember) which made me really happy. While talking about language, in this book I was introduced to many new words. Many of the new words dealt with the fantasy aspect of the book (mage, casting, etc.) which I liked. But I also learned some new vocabulary. The books writing style is different from what I usually read, but I loved it. At times it was hard to keep track of the characters (mainly with the second and third book) but I've always had a problem with that and I think the speed that I read the books didn't help with my problem.
All in all, I loved this book and this series. It is a great fantasy romantic book to read!! I laughed with it, I felt Ryiah's pain, and I may have even shed a tear or two in these books.
