For their roles in the birth of modernism, most of the 14 Russian women artists profiled in this profusely illustrated monograph by a Soviet art historian came from far-flung provinces to challenge the overrefined European conventions of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The haunting, turn-of-the-century Symbolist paintings of Maria Yakunchikova were followed by Zinaida Serebryakova's animated realism and by Natalya Goncharova's neoprimitivist fusion of folk art and cubism. Universal War , a series of semi-abstract collages by Olga Rozanova, is a powerful antiwar statement. In the 1920s and '30s as experiment gave way to Socialist Realism, women artists created intimate, poetic yet socially resonant "chamber art." This valuable survey closes with two sculptors, Sarra Lebedeva and Vera Mukhina, who ventured beyond the limits imposed by Soviet bureaucracy to forge personal statements of woman's vitality and her place in society.

I am not finished with this book yet...to this moment I am half of the way. This book reads like a good novel, it is so well written that you can not put it down!!!

All issues are fairly addressed and explained. When you can learn and have a little bit of fun reading a book...It can not get any better...

If you are not an economist ( good for you!!!) but like me , are interested in the subjet..this book is for you.

Years ago while I was an undergraduate I decided to consider Economics as a major. I'd read a couple articles and these interested me to learn more--despite my high school Economics experience. One of the articles was Yanis Varoufaknis' (co-written with Joseph Haveli) 'The Global Minotaur' in Monthly Review.
I was so interested by the argument presented by Mr. Varoufaknis in that article that I...almost bought this book! And then checked it out from my college library! Then I bought it.
I credit this book with getting me an "A" in all the 'neoclassical' economic theory classes I had to take at the undergraduate level (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Labor Economics, as well as, History of Economic Thought).
The book is a gem. The writing flows and somehow maintains your interest in even the most arcane discussions of neoclassical economics. There are excellent quotes interspersed throughout the text. Brain teasing puzzles, paradoxes, and thought-experiments. Excellent summaries of a wide range of debates on a host of theoretical, policy, philosophical, and political issues relating to economics. Debates that can and will--if you're at all interested in economics--help you decide into what arena of economics you'll want to study. Or, whether or not you will want to study economics at all--and maybe, why you should or shouldn't. But besides all that, the book is a masterpiece in that it's an enjoyable and readable detailing of what modern economics is, and why it is that way. What an accomplishment! And once you have a solid understanding of those--which this book not only offers but demands--economics becomes not dismal but somehow, intriguing. Get your hands on this book. You'll be happy you did.

I like reading books on subjects I know little about.

When interested in economics, I was referred to the this book several times.

I hesitated at first due to the price, but decided to go with it due to recommendations (something I rarely gamble on)

I was very pleased. Well written, and easy to read. Just what I was looking for. I really want to see how Varoufakis would tackle companions for other subjects beyond economics.

This book should be on every health practitioners list of books to read. Schauss explains in detail, with good research quotes what is happening to our society psychologically and why. We want to find some extraordinary explanations for our present day society's behaviour when it is so simple. Phillip Day I am sure loves this man as well because they are both saying the same. Our diet is leading us down a path of self destruction. Sugar, alcohol and preservatives are creating havoc in our bodies both psychologically and physiologically. It is time our world woke up to this and made some meaningful but elementary changes.

Nutrient Foods & Detox - Solution to Crime, Delinquency

I'm going from memory, having read the book many, many years ago, so I'm paraphrasing below. I gave this book 5 stars because it gives REAL CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS to crime and delinquency that WORK (not a hodgepodge of useless, scientific jargon).

CRIME PREVENTION FOR CHILDREN--A young boy who was labeled by psychiatrists, educators, counselors, doctors, judges, etc., as hopeless and destined to a life of crime. Alexander told the mother to replace the fast foods (junk foods), with whole nutritious foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, good fats, etc. Within a few months, the boy became a "normal child".

BEHAVIOR IN PRISON--Healthy snacks were put on the "shopping cart" for prisoners. Those who ate the nutrious snacks changed for the better. When questioned, the prisoners said..."Before, I just reacted. Now, I can think [before I act].

DETOX--People with criminal behaviors have higher amounts of HEAVY METALS in their body. A list of these metals is listed on a graph.

I was really grateful to find a copy of More Than a Carpenter in the Arab language. This has been such an influential book in the English language, that I was glad that someone took the time to translate it to Arabic. I purchased it for a Muslim friend that had asked me a number of questions about Christianity. Although he was very adamant about his own beliefs in Islam, he did take and read the book. Thank you again, Josh McDowell, for writing a classic.

This book will save your time, a lot!

When you start with Magento you need a good handout, all-in-one resource that gets you started. Magento 2 Development Cookbook includes great recipes. After checking out the contents of the book I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and put those recipes to work.
In my opinion a great book is the one that covers all the basics, gives you good solid ground and code that will help you get started.
Magento 2 Development Cookbook includes great recipes. It was very important to take a look on how to build a shipping module for Magento 2. Most of my clients use Georgian Post as their primary shipping method, hence I need a custom shipping module. And once again I would like to thank the author. None of the articles I have read have bothered to explain as much as this cookbook does. And the part I loved most was having ability to add Tracking Number. Actually it’s all you need with the shipping module.
I also believe that this is a kind of a book that has to always stay on your desk or desktop, depending on whether it’s a hard copy or PDF. I’ll be using this as a handout which I’ll refer to in every single project, every time I’ll be building a theme or a module from ground up.
I think that this one will be a good investment for anyone who wants to get started with Magento 2. It will help you right away, and will be helpful each time you are cooking for Magento 2.
Last but not least, I have to mention - “who is this book for”?
Magento 2 Development Cookbook covers lots of “how to do” stuff. I believe this book is for anyone. It’s for beginners and experienced developers. This book concentrates on code and specific examples. For me, as a developer it’s always more efficient to take a look at a code and read it. Eventually this book will save your time, a lot!

Great introduction

It's a great introduction to Magento 2 development environment especially because Magento 2 is the new version of this ecommerce platform and it's not backwards compatible with the Magento 1 versions. This means that we have a gamechange and many things we have to relearn in order to update our clients' sites to this new version. The first chapter tackles this process in case of the sample data site. Of course still few sites run Magento 2 but it's good idea to stay ahead with practical advices. This cookbook will save you time!

A. J. Lape has just destroyed me.
Seriously, hands down, the BEST writing I have read in the last YEAR.
There is not a word to describe how of one swoop, she has touched on every emotion. In one night, I was hysterical with both laughter and devastation. And I was not even finished yet. A. J. ‘s books are ALWAYS good, but I actually choked on my spit gasping and giggling at the same time.
Utterly amazing writing.

Breath of fresh air

I can not honestly remember how I came across reading this series but I remember after reading the first book I needed to get it on paperback.
The whole series is so different from what I normally read but I have to say that this book is in a league of its own.
Darcy Walker is a character that I love. She acts without thinking and can get bored so easily.
On the outside Darcy can come across as having a hard shell but on the inside is a scared and insecure girl. In this book we get to see this vulnerability really show.
There are so many questions answered in this book.
I cried - a lot - with this book. I cried because of what was going on, what Darcy was saying, when Dylan cried. Now let me tell you about Dylan. At the beginning of this entire series I was not his biggest fan. In fact he annoyed the heck out of me because I thought of him as a control freak but after reading this series..... wow. I wanted to give him a hug and tell him everything will be okay.I wanted to hug Darcy and tell her not to worry and that she is a brave girl.
Ivy I wanted to shake. Seriously the girl annoys me but this book made me pity her.
Jagger made me think ooooo scary.
Ben.... well Ben.... what a fantastic character.
This series is truly one of the best series I have read in my lifetime. The author seems to have poured her heart and soul into this book and after every book I always wonder how she could top the last. This book was no exception.
Honestly I am sitting here now, after reading it, and wondering what to do next.
Darcy's world is truly a place you want to be part of. You can easily get lost in her world.
Thank you A.J Lape for this fantastic series. I series that I don't want to end and a series I would love to see as a movie.

Darcy really took me for a ride in this one!

As all of the other books, I freaking heart Darcy! I am not going to give my full review right now... That will come during the blog tour... but I will give you some of my thoughts right now.
This book, like the others, are super funny. Unlike the other books, it also ripped my heart at in parts. Literally ripped my heart out. I was not expecting tears, other than joyous ones, in this book.
I love that AJ uses her imagination. You not only feel like you are inside Darcy's brain, but you are able to feel like you are Darcy. You find yourself lost in her thoughts and actions.
I think the thing I love about this series the most is that these are books that not only can I enjoy, but my children also. Between the kid-friendly content and the extensive imagination that takes you to places beyond reality (which is what a book is supposed to do), this series is a winner all of the way around!

AJ Lape has brought many laughs and giggles with the first three books in this series. She did the same in this book, however she throw a cookie at me in this one. She drenched me in hot coffee and burned me with some series tears too! I was not expected the tears. The sadness and pity I felt for Darcy in this book is extremely heavy.

This book isn't like the other books. Sure, there are dead bodies falling out of walls. Sure there is Darcy's brothers coming to her aid. And yes, Dylan. What I didn't expect was not only the depths of the back-story of Darcy's mother, but I didn't expect things to go to where they went.

The second half of this book ripped my heart out. I sobbed like a baby, true story. I had to force myself to read it because it was so heavy. I was afraid of where AJ was going to take Darcy. I wanted to read it with my eyes closed... But that wasn't possible. I cringed a lot. I prayed a lot that no harm came to Darcy. To say this book shocked me is an understatement!

This book isn't all serious. We have Bean and some twerking. We have cheating girlfriends. Darcy attracts more male suiters. Darcy questions her relationship with Dylan to the point she drives him even more crazy. There is the "usual" plus more seriousness than we have yet to have.

Oh, I can't forget... Dodge Charger man... We finally get our answers. Yes, you read that right!!!

If you haven't started this series, you really should. The best part of this series, aside from the laughs, is that it is marketable for ALL ages. This is something your twelve year old can read and enjoy; it is something any adult can read and enjoy. You don't come across many books or series that are perfect for all age groups!
