"NEVER CALL IT DIRT!"

Lab books are all the same! This lab book is nothing different then my other soils lab books.
All the experiments are the same and the only difference in the test is that every instructor's interest on the behavior of soil will vary. Meaning they will omit one test for another based on their emphasis of importance of soil.
A good professor will have a descent lab that has a wide variety of different regional soil samples for the students to test.
I was truly amazed at my soil's lab diversity in samples. My Professor had soil samples from many different states from across the United States and other countries.
This made the lab experiments very interesting and allowed all the results to be different between students and the analysis according to each soil's characteristic behavior.

Such a great book for kids and adults to read together!! Joy Berry has a wonderful way of bringing things to a kids level to help them understand things better. Sometimes as an adult we forget kids see and process the world differently than us.

Beautifully illustrated to help kids pay attention while learning valuable life lessons!

A Solid Guide to Exam MFE

The author sent me a review copy and asked me to review "Financial Economics." This was especially timely, since I was preparing to take Exam MFE, and I really liked his last book, "Financial Mathematics". I am very pleased with the book.

The book starts off with an introductory chapter on the entire theory of pricing. Obviously, it doesn't go into much detail, but it explains how all the pieces fit together. It's like a map of financial economics. This made the chapters on specific models a lot easier to follow, since I could refer to the map whenever I wondered "what problem does this solve?" about a model or technique. This is unlike McDonald, where the "why" is spread out over 500 pages. I especially like how the book explains the Black-Scholes and interest rate models. The book has lots of problems and solutions.

The book strongly focuses on the exam, and doesn't cover the theory of Ito integration in much depth, just the facts you need to do calculations. The book doesn't explain how to solve stochastic differential equations, and just gives the solutions for some common ones. The book strikes a tough balance. It's a textbook on Exam MFE, not a textbook on financial economics. But it does a good job at what it covers. If I keep practicing, I will pass the exam.

Update: I passed Exam MFE this morning. I used this book and I used a 30 day subscription to ADAPT. This book has a lot of good of problems, and I jumped up to ADAPT level 6 almost immediately, after using this book to prepare. I didn't really need ADAPT after using this book to prepare (but it did help my confidence).

Avoid this book at all costs

I bought this book based on the evaluation by the other reader. I thought I could see a fresh approach to the subject, after working with Weishaus ASM, Mahler's, Guo and Finan, and under the overall looking at the McDonald's text. Just finished Chapter 3, the text and the problems are plagued with lots of missing data and errors, some very basic. The problems are good but so many errors really do not help the student. Tried to contact the author at Poisson Labs, but I did not get any answers.

This is the second edition version. I love having the Big Book on my Kindle, however, the lack of page numbering is frustrating at times - this is a Kindle issue not a book issue.

Need page numbers

Good to have a real conference approved version of the Big Book, but it really needs page numbers. Whenever somebody is reading the book, or referring to a passage, they cite the page number.

Yeah, I know, Page 417, "Acceptance is the answer..." but this should be an easy fix.

The Big Book helps wtih the serenity to accept the things we cannot change

"We are taught to differentiate between our wants (which are never satisfied) and our needs (which are always provided for). We cast off the burdens of the past and the anxieties of the future, as we begin to live in the present, one day at a time. We are granted “the serenity to accept the things we cannot change”—and thus lose our quickness to anger and our sensitivity to criticism. Above all, we reject fantasizing and accept reality."

This excerpt is from the final chapter in Alcoholics Anonymous (4th edition) and best sums up the reality that is living with alcoholism. Whether it’s a parent, spouse, ex-spouse, child(ren), it’s safe to say that everyone knows someone impacted by this disease.

I read this book as part of research I am doing into addiction. Though I am not a member of the program, I know a few friends of Bill W. and am grateful for the recovery program they have and hope that those out there suffering will find a way out of the darkness that is this disease.

My World turned inside out.

This book is wonderful. My copy has already suffered at the hands of a highlighter,a pencil, and many re-readings. Even in its dog-eared state this text is beautiful and leaves you just short of your own gnosis. Tom Cheetham-as Prometheus- has brought us light from the Gods. His work on Corbin was very much needed and makes Corbin accesible...well at least in the English translations ;much of Corbin's work is still in French. The title of the book is somewhat misleading. This book isn't simply about "Islamic Mysticism" or "Henry Corbin", it is much more about worldviews. I promise this book will take your worldview and "turn it inside out".

We must say that this is THE book to read if you want to take personally all the esoteric Sufi material presented by the spiritual genius Henry Corbin. We take this book with us on trips, we keep it by our bedside, we talk about these lucid ideas with our campanions on the path. Wake up and die before you die....
